The Emergency Medicine (EM) residency program provides an intense three-year learning experience that employs a variety of teaching methods and approaches, including research related activities. An integral component of the residency program is the research requirement. All residents are required to participate in a scholarly and academic project, which ranges from involvement in a clinical or basic science project to publication of an abstract, case report, review article, book chapter, or manuscript during their tenure in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Residents are closely guided through their three years in the development and implementation of their projects by the faculty resident research coordinators (listed above), who are each assigned to a class of residents. The residents have full-access to all aspects of the research infrastructure including the Academic Associate program. We encourage all residents to take full advantage of these faculty and research program resources to enhance their education and their skill in critical thinking and incorporating new knowledge into their careers and future practice.

All residents embrace this opportunity and their efforts have led to the publication of several abstracts. Furthermore, many residents have had the opportunity to present their work at national conferences such as the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine’s Annual Meeting and the American College of Emergency Physician’s Scientific Assembly Research Forum.
