Project Coordinators for Research and Education

Project Coordinators for Research and Education are generally post-baccalaureate students who specialize in facilitating the research process. They are capable of completing many research-related tasks and aid the faculty with scholarly projects. Project Coordinators are also involved in the development of educational programs of the department. They assist faculty with the preparation and development of CME modules and conferences. Project Coordinators and Academic Associates have helped create several CME modules regarding stroke, ACS and sedation; furthermore, they aided our emergency toxicology faculty hold an 8 credit-CME Toxicology Conference.

Our current Project Coordinator is a former Academic Associate, Genine Siciliano, BS:

Genine graduated summa cum laude from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Biology and a concentration in the Honors Program. She also earned a minor in Classical Studies. At Fairfield, Genine was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and Alpha Sigma Nu (the Jesuit honor society). In her senior year she studied steroid hormones, specifically estrogen, and wrote a review paper on intracellular estrogen receptors and their physiological significance to breast cancer therapy. Prior to joining the North Shore-LIJ Health System, Genine volunteered as a research associate in the ED of St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT where she was involved with studies on women's access to breast and cervical cancer screenings in the ED. Genine then served as an Academic Associate for a year, contributing to a wide range of research topics including the novel usage of ultrasound, protocolized care for early septic shock, and more. Genine was also the primary investigator of a study relating to sexual assault victims in the ED. Genine is currently in her second year of medical school at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine.  She is highly involved with the institution, serving as a member of the Admissions Committee.
