Emergency Medicine Fellowships

Fellowship in Toxicology

The Department of Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital is pleased to offer a two-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in Medical Toxicology.

The program seeks to provide the fellows with a broad exposure to all aspects of Medical Toxicology in order to sufficiently prepare them for their future career and successful completion of the Medical Toxicology board exam. We also encourage the fellows to pursue their specific interests within the field and to avail themselves of training, teaching and research opportunities at the regional, national and international level.

To optimize and diversify the clinical experience, our program is affiliated with the New York City Poison Control Center, the Long Island Regional Drug & Poison Information Center and Long Island Jewish/Cohen's Children's Hospital. Toxicology fellows are also extremely involved in a faculty practice Toxicology Clinic where patients with exposures to subacute or occupational/environmental poisonings are evaluated.  Toxicology fellowship training is thus diversified with respect to learning about clinical problems in various settings.

Our program offers excellent research opportunities in clinical medicine as well as basic science, with access to state-of-the-art laboratories on campus. North Shore University Hospital is in the top 10% of all institutions nationwide receiving NIH funding. Faculty mentoring and support is tailored to the fellows’ interests.  Additionally, the fellow is assisted by a full-time research director and research assistants.

The fellowship currently accepts two fellow per year. The fellow is paid according to their PGY level and clinical responsibilities in the NSUH Emergency Department do not exceed 12 hours/week.

The successful applicant will have satisfactorily completed residency training at an ACGME accredited program and have interest in Medical Toxicology. Applications are accepted for applicants who have successfully trained in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine. Interested individuals should send their curriculum vitae and 3 letters of recommendation. To apply or obtain more information, please write to the Medical Toxicology Fellowship Director:
