Conferences
Scheduled conferences take place every Wednesday from 7am-12pm Residents are excused from clinical responsibilities to attend these mandatory conferences. Residents are not scheduled for shifts on the night preceding conference day. The North Shore University Hospital Emergency Medicine faculty, residents, and other invited guest speakers give lectures and conferences.
Grand Rounds
• Every other Month
• Local and national guest speakers discuss topics relevant to practicing emergency physicians
Pediatric Grand Rounds
• Monthly
• Given by a distinguished panel of guest speakers
Core Content Conference
• Two hours each week
• Formal didactics integrating "The Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine"
Case Presentation Conference
• Weekly
• Residents present difficult, interesting, or unusual cases to their peers
• The conference is an interactive session where residents interpret data, delineate patient management, and answer pathophysiology questions. This format is also designed to help residents prepare for the oral-board examination process.
Interdisciplinary Conferences
• Once or twice a month
• Fosters a collaborative approach to patient care with attendees from various departments, including Trauma, Medicine, Pediatrics, Critical Care, Psychiatry, and Radiology
Morbidity and Mortality Conference
• Monthly
• By reviewing cases with adverse outcomes, residents participate in the process of performance improvement and peer review
Journal Club
• Monthly
• Current EM literature, research methodology, and statistics are reviewed. Also covered are classic articles pertinent to the practice of EM and the evidence based Medicine.
Pediatric Case Conference
• Monthly
• Case prepared by senior resident in conjunction with Director of the Pediatric ED
• Reviews interesting pediatric cases managed in the pediatric emergency department
