Academic Faculty Positions
The North Shore-LIJ Health System includes three tertiary care teaching hospitals, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital and Staten Island University Hospital, as well as several affiliated community hospitals throughout the New York metropolitan region. The Emergency Medicine Service is seeking board prepared/certified, residency trained Emergency Physicians to augment its staff. We have two ACGME-accredited residency programs in Emergency Medicine and are seeking faculty with an interest in academic and scholarly activity. A wide range of clinical, teaching, research and administrative opportunities are available. The ongoing development of our affiliated Emergency Departments has created opportunities for joint positions among institutions.

We have particular interest in academic faculty with Emergency Medicine Board Certification and/or additional fellowship training in Critical Care, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, International Emergency Medicine, Informatics, Sports Medicine, Ultrasound, Toxicology and Clinical Research. Emergency Medicine Fellowship Opportunities

Critical Care: Our two year Critical Care Medicine Program provides the fellow with expertise in Critical Care Medicine as it applies to the Emergency Department and to the Critical Care Unit. Fellowship training satisfies the requirements for eligibility for the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine.

Emergency Ultrasound: Our Emergency Ultrasound Program affords the fellow a strong foundation in Emergency Ultrasound practice, research and teaching, to prepare fellows for leadership positions in the field of Emergency Ultrasound. In addition, upon completion of the program, fellows are prepared for RDMS certification.

FDNY EMS: This one year fellowship is considered one of the world’s premier programs in Emergency Medicine Services and Disaster Medicine. It is affiliated with the Fire Department of New York and is located at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

International Emergency Medicine: Our International Emergency Medicine Program is based primarily at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and offers the fellow the opportunity to gain experience in emergency medicine service and disaster preparedness in an international climate. The program is dedicated to improving emergency medical care and education in the global community.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine: Schneider Children’s Hospital offers a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Program focused on training physicians in pediatric clinical care, teaching, administration and research. This three year program offers a comprehensive experience at one of the region’s best pediatric care facilities.

Research: The Emergency Medicine Research Fellow works with investigators in the Department of Emergency Medicine as well as in the NIH-funded General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, NY. We offer an additional opportunity to earn a PhD from the Elmezzi School of Molecular Medicine.

Sports Medicine: Our one year Sports Medicine Program is fully accredited and the fellow will work with experts in the office and in the field. Many venues will be available for coverage by the fellow.

Toxicology: Our Toxicology Program is fully accredited to accept one fellow per year for a two year program. The program is based primarily at North Shore University Hospital and is affiliated with the New York City Poison Control Center, the Long Island Regional Poison and Drug Information Center, and Schneider Children’s Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
